Karate Classes in Roseville, Sydney

Sydney North Shore Dojo: elite Okinawan Goju-Ryu karate in Roseville — built on discipline, driven by excellence.

Welcome to the Sydney North Shore Dojo, the premier hub for authentic traditional Okinawan Goju-Ryu karate on Sydney’s Upper North Shore. Operating from the historic Centenary Hall in Roseville, our dojo focuses on preserving the true spirit, uncompromising rigour, and core values of Goju-Ryu. Whether you’re searching for high-level adult karate classes or practical self-defence classes in Sydney, we offer a disciplined, elite environment to push your limits.

Our History & Okinawan Lineage

The Sydney Dojo’s roots run deep, carrying over four decades of traditional martial arts excellence:

  • The foundation: Established in 1982, the dojo soon passed to Sensei Len Resnekov, whose traditional background included training at the famous Yoyogi Dojo in Tokyo.
  • The evolution: In 2003, leadership transitioned to Simon Beaumont Sensei (7th Dan). As one of the highest-ranking Goju-Ryu practitioners in Australia, Simon Sensei has steered the growth of the Sydney Dojo ever since.
  • The legacy: Today, we maintain a direct, unbroken lineage to the traditional masters of Okinawa, ensuring world-class instruction in every session.

Our Training Facility: Centenary Hall

Forget modern, commercialised “mcdojos.” Our facility offers a traditional, no-nonsense environment:

  • Spacious & focused: A historic venue adapted perfectly for high-intensity conditioning, precise kata drills, and functional movement.
  • Elite environment: Designed specifically for serious practitioners who want to focus on mental fortitude and real-world self-defence without distractions.
  • Accessible location: Centrally located in Roseville — the premier destination for martial arts on the Upper North Shore.

Our Philosophy: Balancing Rigour with Longevity

We don’t teach watered-down martial arts. At the Sydney North Shore Dojo, we practise Goju-Ryu exactly as intended — balancing the mental and physical fortitude of the 1980s with modern, evidence-based biomechanics to prevent injury and support lifelong practice.
