Okinawa Goju Ryu Karate training is one of the only remaining styles of martial arts that maintains a complete system, from kicking and striking, to locks, throws and ground techniques with the sole application of self-defence. There is a significant focus on breathing, personal health and wellbeing. Traditional karate is an art that can be practiced for life.

IOGKF Newcastle Honbu Dojo: the regional headquarters of traditional Okinawan Goju-Ryu.
Welcome to the IOGKF Newcastle Honbu Dojo. Strategically located in Garden Suburb, our main training centre serves as the heart of traditional Okinawan Goju-Ryu for the broader Newcastle region. As the only club in Newcastle officially recognised by IOGKF International, we offer a direct connection to the teachings of World Chief Instructor Nakamura Tetsuji Sensei (8th Dan).
A legacy of excellence since 1979. Our Garden Suburb dojo carries a prestigious history — we were the first dojo in Australia to formally join the IOGKF, a legacy established by the legendary Chris Larken Sensei. Today, we continue that tradition, providing a disciplined yet welcoming environment for the next generation of martial artists.
